As a designer, I’ve always loved working with my hands. Eventually this led me to the art of crochet. Here I’ll take you though some of my favorite projects I’ve worked on.
Granny Square Tote Bag
This fully functional tote bag is constructed from hand-crocheted granny squares, joined with cream-colored stitching and a matching handle. The design balances traditional crochet techniques with practical everyday use to create a sturdy, reusable bag. The granny square is one of the most basic motifs in the art of crochet. This project exemplifies how even the most basic elements of an art form can be combined to create something dignified and inventive.
Faux-Knit Fisherman Beanie
Crocheted to mimic the texture of classic knitting, this beanie draws inspiration from the dual landscapes of Northern California’s coast. The soft gray evokes the cool fog that drapes over the shoreline, while the deep green represents the redwoods that rise just beyond the mist. Together, they mirror the quiet balance between sea and forest, a staple that always reminds me of home. Now, why would you be wearing a beanie near the beach you ask? Visit a Northern California beach and you’ll soon get your answer.
Bouquet of Lavender
When I was young my parents planted a lavender bush in our front yard. Now, the smell of lavender instantly takes me back to a simpler time. This crocheted bouquet reimagines that same lavender as a lasting, handcrafted piece. I love to create and gift these bouquets as long-lived alternatives to fresh flowers. They’re objects that hold the same sentiment and beauty without fading over time.
